About

The growing legal department of three lawyers at TINE, Norway’s largest producer, distributor and exporter of dairy products with 11,400 members (owners) and 9,000 cooperative farms, has gone through personnel changes in recent years. Its highly respected general counsel and head of legal, Nina Melandsø, joined the pre-existing team in June 2017 whilst group legal counsel Ingvild Erdal, a specialist in IPR and marketing law, joined 12 months later. Christian L. Dahlgren, also general legal counsel, has been at the company since 2009 and has extensive knowledge of its operations who is described as ‘an all-rounder, skilled in negotiations, contracts law and corporate law’ by Melandsø. The team is credited for having contributed heavily to TINE by working significant cases and transactions such as the successful protection of the company’s most important trademark Jarlsberg with a competitor, strengthening TINE’s US subsidiary Norseland by acquisition of Lotito Foods, providing assistance related to construction of a new production facility in Bergen, and the re-construction of TINE’s largest production facility in Oslo and the construction of a new cheese production plant in Ireland. The latter was TINE’s largest ever international investment, and, further proving its ability, the legal team also assisted the sales team in negotiations with TINE’s customers, that is, the main retail chains in Norway.
