Career biography
Vincent Mohy is an international lawyer with more than 20 years of experience in the energy and commodities sector. Since 2010, he has served as General Counsel of SOCAR Trading SA in Geneva, the global trading arm of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
At SOCAR Trading, Vincent has supported the company’s development into an established participant in international energy markets. He leads the legal function, advising on governance, corporate structures, transactions, and regulatory positioning across jurisdictions. Over the years, he has worked closely with senior management and commercial teams to establish frameworks that balance business growth with strong compliance and governance standards. His responsibilities have included advising on international oil and gas transactions, joint ventures, financing, and dispute resolution, as well as promoting a culture of transparency and accountability within the organisation.
From 2019 to 2020, he also served as Managing Director of SOCAR Trading Singapore, where he helped strengthen the subsidiary’s role in Asian markets. In that position, he combined operational oversight with strategic engagement, building relationships with counterparties and regulators while ensuring alignment with the group’s global platform.
Before joining SOCAR Trading, Vincent worked with leading institutions in the energy and financial sectors. At RWE Supply & Trading in Geneva, he advised on structured gas and power transactions across Europe. At Citigroup in London, he supported the commodities and derivatives desks on documentation, licensing, and exchange of memberships. He began his energy career at ENGIE-Electrabel in Brussels, focusing on trading agreements in power, gas, and emissions markets.
He started his legal career at White & Case in Brussels, where he advised on syndicated loans, capital markets, and M&A. This role provided a solid grounding in corporate finance and transactional law before his transition into the energy industry.
Vincent holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., and a master’s in law, magna cum laude, from Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. He is admitted to the New York Bar and the Brussels Bar (currently non-practising).
Throughout his career, Vincent has sought to connect legal expertise with commercial priorities. His approach has been to help businesses operate securely in regulated markets, manage risks responsibly, and pursue opportunities within sound governance frameworks.
