How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

If you look at the past few years and decades, instability has been the norm in Brazil, even though the cause varied completely. On top of that, you have individual industry disruptions caused by technology and other external factor, so when you bake it all together you see that legal and business need to want hand in hand, and it has been a while that there is no room for an isolated legal department. The legal team must remain true and a guardian to law, ethics and companies values, while at the same time helping the business navigate these difficult times. It’s not one or the other, it’s both, so having this as a clear objective to the team is a way to make sure we play our part in the broader business strategy for company, allowing for sustainable growth.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

Artificial Intelligence is definitely reshaping not only the legal profession, but also all other areas. The pace of the change is fast, not only from a regulatory point of view, but also from a user standpoint for legal specific solutions, and those professionals that are open to understanding and leverage it will be better positioned. To be up-to-date, you need to be aware of market trends, and when adopting an AI solution, make sure it’s secure, transparent, and open to allow for the flexibility necessary to benefit from new developments.
