As a part of this dynamic global organisation, the Accenture Turkey legal team had been built from scratch in 2010 by country legal lead Emel Nakay. Under her leadership, the legal team operates mainly as two divisions: one division is focused on complex contracting matters of all services in strategy, consulting, digital technology and operations across industry sectors. Whilst the other division is focused on core areas such as compliance, offerings, regulatory and employment matters. Both teams are responsible for related legal matters of all the local entities in the Accenture group, as well as supporting global projects and initiatives of the global Accenture network through local contributions, reviews and localisations as needed. The Turkey legal team has a very close and day-to-day connection with legal colleagues in the global Accenture network, which enables the legal professionals to broaden their vision and business mentality to accordingly contribute to business growth in the planned direction. In a very busy two years for the company and in conjunction with the seamless delivery of hands-on legal support, the local legal team has been restructured with new joiners and the responsibility of a core division being taken on by the local team. Nakay also took additional legal responsibilities outside of Turkey and, accordingly, she continues empowering the local legal team with an aim of increasing their ability to work independently and develop talent. In parallel to the latest emerging market journeys of agile methodologies, automation and artificial intelligence, the Accenture Turkey legal team keeps investing in itself and adapts business considerations to related contract practices in line with local laws. Nakay identifies that, ‘as a team we believe that biggest differentiating factor of being a well trusted and successful legal team is finding the right balance between driving the business forward and protecting the company’s interests. This is what we try to achieve as Accenture’s legal team every day; being the translator between business and legal and communicating in a manner understanding both aspects to all stakeholders is a fundamental part of our daily role’.
