What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?
The identification of regulatory compliance issues, such as updating the system for the protection and/or processing of personal data, in accordance with recent modifications, and, of a preventive nature, a comprehensive occupational health management system focused on the mental and occupational health of the worker. Both are aimed at adding value to human capital management and at preventing contingencies.
What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?
Firstly, preventive Management. In a country with such an active SUNAFIL (National Superintendency of Labour Inspection), the modern lawyer is not a “firefighter” putting out fires, but a strategist who audits and prevents contingencies before fines are levied.
Secondly, emotional intelligence and negotiation. Labour law deals with people. A lawyer must be able to manage conflicts with unions or executives with empathy and firmness, always prioritising labour peace and the company’s reputation. A strategist who speaks the language of senior management, who uses technology to their advantage, and who understands that their best judgment is the one that never goes to court.
What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?
What truly inspires me is demonstrating that a successful company and a protected worker are two sides of the same coin. My mission is to break with the outdated notion that labour law is an “obstacle” and transform it into a tool that fosters talent and the country’s growth.
I am driven by a preventative approach: I am convinced that the best conflict is the one that never happens. For me, true mastery lies not in winning lawsuits, but in establishing clear rules within the company so that everyone can operate with peace of mind. By “taking precautions” and doing things right from day one, we protect both the company’s finances and the well-being of its people.
My goal is to demonstrate that doing the right thing is also good business. I dream of a country where labour law is the bridge that allows companies to thrive and workers to grow, ensuring that the company’s success ultimately becomes everyone’s success.
