Ielyzaveta Badanova is an exclusively qualified Ukrainian energy law professional, who is well-experienced in international energy law, EU law, Ukrainian gas market law, and more. She has an excellent career record, being employed by Naftogaz of Ukraine, KPMG, Magisters and other top Ukrainian companies. She also gained valuable experience working in the Energy Community Secretariat and Ukrainian governmental institutions.

In Naftogaz of Ukraine (the largest oil and gas monopoly in Ukraine), she is responsible for the implementation of the gas market law reform during the integration of Ukrainian legislation into the EU regulatory framework. She has been involved in the development and support of adopt major laws and regulations during the Ukrainian gas market reform. She took part in the communication with the Ukrainian energy market regulator, government and parliament.

Currently, she leads a team of in-house lawyers and external consultants (including EY) to achieve Naftogaz’s goal of successfully unbundling the gas transmission system operator from Naftogaz (a unique project that has never been previously carried out in Ukraine). Within this project, she demonstrated excellent competence in both Ukrainian and EU regulations on gas market and unbundling. She demonstrated impressive leadership skills, as well as capability of providing excellent quality of work to Naftogaz and maintaining efficient communication with all service providers and stakeholders involved.

One may reasonably argue that she has played a key role in reforming the Ukrainian gas market and, especially, unbundling of the gas transmission system operator. Therefore, we believe that her valuable contribution should be properly recognised.
