The AES Corporation is a US Fortune 200 company that generates and distributes electrical power operates in Panama through AES Panamá, which operates and manages the hydroelectric plants in the country as well as other subsidiaries. The legal department handling matters in Panama is comprised of gifted in-house lawyers and is led by general counsel – Panama Adviel Centeno Mayta. Joining Centeno in the legal department is the experienced legal adviser Grissell Pardo, contract manager and former private practise attorney Ricardo Antonio Cespedes Garcia and the skilled regional compliance officer for business development and senior legal counsel Veronica Sinisterra Bernal. In 2015 the team helped the company win a competitive bid process conducted by the Electric Transmission Company SA (ETESA), the state’s electric transmission company, to supply 350MW of new capacity from Panama’s first natural gas-fired generation plant. In 2017, it played another important role when they helped AES Panamá sign a 50/50 joint venture with ENGIE that will see the companies expand their respective LNG marketing partnership to Central America. With talented legal personnel among their ranks, the legal department look set to play a key role in helping the company fulfil its commitment to develop infrastructure solutions and energy whilst reducing emissions significantly.
