Career Biography

Lorena Barrientos is an accomplished legal executive with nearly 20 years of national and international experience advising businesses on corporate strategy, governance, legal risk management, and complex commercial matters. Throughout her career, she has worked in leading law firms in Chile and the United States and has held senior in-house leadership positions, including overseeing legal functions for companies with operations across multiple jurisdictions.

Her experience spans private, public, and startup environments, as well as active participation on boards of directors and executive committees. She has extensive expertise in working with multidisciplinary teams to drive the successful execution of strategic projects, ensure compliance with labour, regulatory, and tax obligations, strengthen relationships with government authorities and stakeholders, and implement effective internal policies and procedures. Her work has focused on corporate planning, governance, legal and reputational risk mitigation, and fostering strong legal and compliance cultures within organisations.

Recognised for her commercial mindset and strategic approach, Lorena Barrientos combines strong business acumen with exceptional negotiation and crisis-management skills. She is known for her collaborative leadership style, ability to build consensus, and focus on delivering practical solutions aligned with business objectives. She is also deeply committed to the development of people and to advancing the social impact and broader contribution of businesses within their communities. Her experience covers a broad range of legal disciplines, including corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, commercial contracting, capital markets, competition law, intellectual property, compliance, employment law, tax matters, and natural resources.

She has received significant recognition from leading legal and business publications, including being named a Chambers Global Leader Market General Counsel in Latin America (2026) and one of the Top 20 General Counsels in Latin America (2025). She has also been recognised in the Legal 500 GC Powerlist in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and was awarded Chambers Diversity & Inclusion Lawyer of the Year in Latin America (2021). In 2025, she was selected as a Santander W-50 Chile Scholar for the London School of Economics.
Lorena is also a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, she has promoted numerous gender and diversity initiatives at both national and regional levels. She currently serves as a Director of Abogadas In-House Chile, contributing to the advancement of the in-house legal profession. She earned her law degree from the University of Chile, graduating with highest distinction, and holds an LL.M. from Georgetown University in the United States.
