Career Biography

Miguel Ángel Raygada Castillo is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), holds an MBA from CENTRUM PUCP and a Master’s degree in Banking and Financial Law from the same institution. He has completed the Senior Management Program at the University of Piura and the CEO Transformation Program at IESE Business School.

He has over twenty-five years of experience in the Peruvian financial system, having held senior legal leadership positions in both local and international banks. He is currently Vice President Legal & Corporate Secretary at Banco GNB Perú, where he leads the bank’s legal and regulatory strategy and advises the Board of Directors and senior management on corporate governance, financial regulation and legal risk management.

He is the author of several specialised publications on corporate law and financial regulation and is an active participant in academic and professional forums.

What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?

Over the past twelve months, I have been involved in several strategic projects focused on the creation of new financial products and the strengthening and redesign of existing ones, ensuring that innovation is aligned with regulatory requirements and the bank’s risk appetite.

In parallel, a key institutional project has been the design and incorporation of a new strategic position within the bank related to personal data protection, reinforcing governance, accountability and compliance in an increasingly digital and data-driven environment. This initiative reflects the growing relevance of data protection, cybersecurity and digital trust as core pillars of the bank’s legal and regulatory framework.

Are there any particular challenges for which in-house counsel should be preparing in 2026?

Yes. In-house counsel should be prepared to operate in a highly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) environment, with increasing regulatory pressure and strong business demands.

The challenge will be to balance speed, innovation and competitiveness with compliance, risk management and reputational protection. General counsel will need to act not only as legal advisors, but also as strategic partners to the business, capable of anticipating risks and supporting decision-making in real time.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

A modern in-house counsel must combine strategic vision, creativity and sound judgment, together with a deep understanding of the business. The ability to think strategically, anticipate scenarios and propose practical solutions is essential.

Equally important is integrity, as in-house counsel play a key role in safeguarding institutional values, promoting ethical decision-making and strengthening corporate governance, particularly in regulated industries.

Are there any key trends that you think in-house lawyers should be monitoring over the next year?

Yes. Two key trends stand out: cybersecurity and personal data protection.

Both areas are becoming central to legal risk management, regulatory compliance and corporate reputation. In-house lawyers must closely monitor regulatory developments, technological changes and emerging risks, while working proactively with business, IT and risk teams to build resilient and compliant organisations.
