Mónica Burbano Albornoz
Vice president legal and compliance | Equisuiza Seguros
Team size: Twelve lawyers
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
The key is to maintain constant, transparent communication from the executive committee with all stakeholders, and to act proactively with respect to both potential and actual risks facing the organisation and its environment.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
The governance pillar must be strong and efficient, providing agile solutions that enable the smooth running of the business without neglecting compliance. Achieving this requires a robust corporate culture that is continuously cultivated and reinforced.
What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?
Conservation and development in rural areas, where the primary use of the land should be preservation, is crucial. These communities are vulnerable and often lack access to social and financial benefits. From the perspective of the insurance industry, I am committed to closing the protection gap and creating a positive impact on the lives of those who face economic losses that can literally mean the difference between life and death.
