Career biography

Xavier Schops works for Medmix Group, a global medical and consumer devices Swiss-listed company. He is the Chief Legal Officer, Company Secretary, Head of Corporate Affairs, and a Member of the Executive Committee.

Xavier has headed the Legal and Compliance department and served as Company Secretary of the Medmix Group since August 2022. He joined the Executive Committee on 1 November 2023. Since then, he has also served first as Head of M&A and later as Head of Corporate Affairs, which includes intellectual property management, compliance, legal affairs, and governance.

He joined Medmix from Sonova AG (2019–2022), a leading provider of medical devices and consumer electronics, where he served as General Counsel, later supporting Mergers & Acquisitions. Previously, he was General Counsel for Europe, Middle East and Africa at PPG Industries (2009–2016), a Fortune 200 US chemical group serving both B2B markets (automotive, aerospace, construction, general industrial) and B2C markets. He also served as Vice President & Chief Counsel Europe for Mondelez International (2016–2019), the world leader in snacking and home to Oreo, Toblerone, Cadbury, and Milka, amongst other beloved brands.

Xavier Schops began his career at the Michelin Group, for which he worked across four countries in Europe and Asia.

He holds a postgraduate degree in Corporate Law and Tax from Paris University (Panthéon-Assas) and a master’s degree in Corporate Finance and Accounting from NEOMA Business School. He is a Board Member and Treasurer of ACC Europe – Association of Corporate Counsel, representing more than 3,800 members (out of 48,000 globally). He also serves as a Lecturer in Mergers & Acquisitions for master’s students at the University of Fribourg and is a career mentor for job seekers at the Amt für Wirtschaft und Arbeit, Canton of Zurich.

He was recognised as In-House Counsel of the Year 2025 in Pharma, Healthcare & Life Sciences by Legalcommunity.ch, and, together with his successive teams, has been featured on the GC Powerlist since 2015.

Xavier is described as a pragmatic, hands-on lawyer with a passion for business. He has gained substantial global experience in supporting American and European listed companies operating in heavily regulated sectors, including life sciences, chemicals, and food. He has demonstrated robust experience in executing strategic growth and transformation and in supporting corporate strategies through organic growth, ventures, alliances, and more than 35 acquisitions across Asia, the US, and EMEA.

He is known for his ability to shape, redesign, and inspire diverse global legal, IP, and compliance teams across multiple geographies, having built legal departments from scratch and substantially transformed others. He is a trusted adviser to the Boards of Directors, Executive Committees, and business leaders.

His support to the business spans cross-border commercial operations, including retail and wholesale agreements, market entry strategies, the establishment of distribution networks, commercial alliances, consortiums, and joint development agreements. Xavier has been actively involved in complex partnerships, such as public–private partnerships, bids for land use rights in Africa and Asia, and joint ventures in the Middle East and China.

He has also played a key role in managing and resolving complex regulatory processes, including matters related to competition, trade, export controls, land use rights, government-linked litigation, product recalls, and adapting to new or changing regulations—including business exits from countries due to regulatory challenges.

Xavier has a strong interest in corporate governance, leadership, and, above all, in leading and supporting global teams.
