Career biography:

Susana Guerrero Piñar is General Counsel and Company Secretary at Mahou San Miguel. In this role, she is also a member of the company’s Executive Committee, reinforcing the strategic role of the legal function in corporate governance and decision-making processes.

She joined Mahou San Miguel in September 2025 as Deputy General Counsel and was subsequently appointed to her current General Counsel position in February 2026. Susana Guerrero has developed her professional career over more than twenty-five years, combining in-house experience in multinational companies with private practice in leading law firms in Spain.

Before joining Mahou San Miguel, she held senior legal responsibilities at Diageo, where she served as Legal Director for Southern Europe. In this role, she worked across different markets, contributing to the legal management of a large international business and was a member of the region’s Executive Team.

Earlier in her career, she worked as a lawyer in Gas Natural (today, Naturgy) providing legal support to the Group’s gas wholesale activity mainly in the North Africa and Middle East regions, and on the Group’s expansion across Europe.

As a private practice lawyer, she worked as an associate in several leading law firms in Spain, including CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo and Pérez-Llorca, where she developed her expertise in Competition and Antitrust Law. She began her professional career in Brussels, building early experience in EU-related legal frameworks.

In addition to her professional practice, Susana Guerrero has worked as an Associate Professor of Corporate and Commercial Law at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

Susana Guerrero holds a Law degree from the University of Granada. She also completed a Master’s degree in EU Law at Universidad Carlos III of Madrid, as well as a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Columbia University in New York.

Throughout her career, she has built a solid background that combines leading the legal function in complex international environments, both in FMCG and regulated sectors, and law firm experience. Her current role at Mahou San Miguel and her involvement in the company’s governance structure reflect this trajectory.

In Mahou San Miguel, Susana Guerrero leads a team of 16 lawyers which provide comprehensive legal support to all the areas of the business.

How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company?

I see the legal function as an enabler of the business strategy, rather than as a control or approval layer. Our role is to frame risk, enable choices and contribute to building a sustainable business.

For the Legal Team at Mahou San Miguel, this translates into embedding legal judgement early in strategic discussions and ensuring that the Legal team is present in key decision-making forums. Proximity to the business, pragmatism and solution-oriented approach allows the team to contribute to decision-making beyond risk mitigation.

Ultimately, our objective is to act as a trusted partner in shaping and enabling business outcomes.

From your perspective, what legal or business trends over the past 12 months have had the most tangible impact on your role?

The recent geopolitical developments are clearly impacting companies’ risk exposure, even in traditionally stable sectors, and are forcing organisations to operate with a higher degree of anticipation and flexibility.

As a result, the role of the general counsel and the legal team is evolving towards a more integrated, agile and forward-looking function. We are expected to anticipate different risk scenarios, assess risks from different perspectives (regulatory, operational, reputational, etc.) and translate that analysis into clear, actionable guidance for the business.
