Career Biography

María Jesús Arribas has been the Global Head of the Legal Department at BBVA since 2018.

Before assuming this position, she was responsible for BBVA’s Corporate Legal Services from 2002 to 2018. Prior to that, she served as Head of the Legal Advisory Department and Secretary of the Board at Finanzia Banco de Crédito, S.A. from 1996 to 2002.

She began her professional career as a corporate lawyer at Gómez de Liaño Law firm and later worked as an equity analyst, trader, and legal expert in securities law at Lombardía & Lacaci, which was later renamed Banesto Bolsa, SVB, S.A.

She holds a degree in Law and Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE, E-3). She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Law at the University of Navarra. Furthermore, she is a Member of the Board of Trustees and Jury for the 2024 and 2025 Transforma Foundation Added Value Awards, which recognise individuals who have contributed through their work and merit in the educational, scientific, cultural, social, and business fields to the development of senior talent.
