What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?
Over the past year, our legal team has been involved in several significant matters.
Corporate Transactions: We worked on the sale-and-leaseback of four hypermarkets, combined with simultaneous operational lease arrangements. We also formalised a strategic long-term partnership with the MAPFRE Group for the exclusive distribution of insurance products across the retail network.
NEXT Project – Legal Department Transformation (2022–2025) and NEXT.IA: Building the Future Legal Function (2026–2030): Our flagship initiative has been the NEXT project, launched in 2022, which aims to build the “Legal Department of the Future” based on four pillars: innovation, team development, customer experience, and legal tech. Key achievements include:
Harvey and Lefebvre Integration: Full deployment of generative AI for legal operations.
Document Automation (Docxpresso / dxContracts): Generation of up to 17,000 legal documents per month, with over one million automated documents to date.
Legal Site: A centralised hub providing more than 35,000 employees with easy access to the legal team, FAQs with immediate answers, and training on regulations.
Look Up Project: A centralised data tool that goes beyond traditional document management, enabling data use and presentation to accelerate decision-making.
Document Management System (iManage): Housing over one million documents, digitally accessible from any device.
AI has had a meaningful and measurable impact on our legal team’s operations.
Harvey Implementation: Following a successful proof of concept in collaboration with PwC, we fully integrated Harvey, a generative AI platform specialised in the legal sector. The results have been clear and tangible:
Strategic Focus: The automation of routine tasks has enabled our team to concentrate on higher-value work, including due diligence for major M&A transactions.
Accelerated Contract Analysis: Harvey’s integration with our real estate dashboard has significantly reduced contract review times.
Faster Regulatory Decision-Making: Harvey provides immediate access to legal precedents and insights, enabling our lawyers to make confident decisions on complex regulatory matters.
Improved Service Delivery: Our legal team now delivers expert advice to internal clients significantly faster than before.
Generative AI is no longer the future—it is already transforming the way we work, allowing us to operate more efficiently and focus on what truly adds value. At Carrefour Spain, legal tech is not optional; it is essential.
In parallel, we have launched “NEXT.IA: Building the Future Legal Function” in partnership with IE Law School and Harvey—a pioneering programme designed to support the transformation of legal departments and prepare legal professionals for future challenges.
