For a lawyer born and raised in Mexico City, Alejandro González Lazzeri says, representing high-profile brands he grew up with, such as Kimberly-Clark, high-end retailer Liverpool, and Coca-Cola, has been a fantastic experience. In 2011, for example, he represented Grupo Bimbo, one of the largest baked-goods companies in the world and one of the largest food companies in the Americas, in its $1.3bn senior credit facility to finance the acquisition of the US fresh bakery business of Sara Lee Corporation. He has also been fortunate enough to witness the significant expansion of some of the largest Mexican companies while regularly assisting them with the financing on numerous domestic and international acquisitions. As part of Skadden’s New York corporate-finance transactional team, González Lazzeri has participated in the inaugural international securities offerings of many companies, including Grupo México, Soriana, Minera Frisco, Cinépolis, and Mexichem. Prior to joining Skadden and starting a career in New York, González Lazzeri practiced law for many years at one of Mexico’s top transactional firms. This experience allowed him to develop a deep understanding of the structures and other relevant legal aspects that regularly arise in the context of cross-border financing transactions involving Mexican entities. Today, while he remains regularly involved in transactions throughout Latin America, González Lazzeri’s familiarity with both Mexico’s legal system and a broad range of its market participants, has seen Mexico emerge as a natural focus for his work.
