Nigel Wellings has extensive experience of covering private company M&A, joint ventures and equity investments since joining Clifford Chance in 1995. In recent years he has been highly active in Africa, earning considerable praise by nominators for his contribution to a number of major deals. In December 2017 he was involved in advising CDC on its investment to support the rise of affordable business hotels across Africa. The following year he advised CDC again on its proposed US$180m equity investment in the largest independent fibre and cloud computing provider in Africa, Liquid Telecom in addition to advising The Carlyle Group on its acquisition of a majority stake in AK Life Sciences (Abacus), a leading distributor of pharmaceutical products in East Africa.
