What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?
During the past twelve months, my work has focused on supporting the company’s financing strategy and growth initiatives, while managing legal risk in complex and, in some cases, cross-border contexts. I have been closely involved in financing transactions governed by both Peruvian law and New York law, advising on structure, documentation and risk allocation, and working alongside internal stakeholders and external counsel to ensure timely execution.
Additionally, I have been actively involved in the negotiation of key agreements with strategic clients and service providers worldwide, where risk management, long-term relationship considerations and business continuity have been central to the legal strategy.
How do you manage legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis, ensuring that your legal strategy aligns with the broader business?
In periods of instability or crisis, my approach is to prioritise clarity and close alignment with the business by identifying the core legal, financial and operational risks and their potential impact. Legal strategy in these situations must be practical and responsive, supporting informed decision-making rather than slowing it down. Where appropriate, I rely on external counsel for specialised or foreign law matters, while maintaining overall strategic oversight internally.
What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?
In-house counsel must combine strong technical expertise with sound commercial judgment. Understanding the business context and anticipating how legal issues affect value, risk and strategy is essential.
Adaptability is equally critical. In-house lawyers operate in constantly evolving environments, often across multiple jurisdictions, and must respond to change while maintaining legal rigor and consistency.
Finally, credibility and trust are fundamental. Strong relationships with internal stakeholders allow legal teams to act as strategic partners, supporting sustainable decision-making rather than functioning solely as a control mechanism.
