Yes, in-house legal advisors must prepare in 2026 for specific challenges such as: (i) technological transformation and the use, correct application and integration of artificial intelligence that allows the automation of legal tasks and generates efficiencies, while maintaining risk management and supervision of tasks performed with the support of artificial intelligence; (ii) greater exposure to reputational risk, considering new technologies and the fact that events spread rapidly and massively; (iii) increasingly regulated environments that require constant risk management and implementation of controls; (iv) participating in the company’s strategy, aligned with business objectives and focused on innovation.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

I believe the most important attributes an in-house legal advisor should have are: (i) versatility to adapt to changing regulatory environments and constant changes; (ii) in addition to legal and technical skills, they should have other skills related to digital issues, technological competencies, and artificial intelligence; (iii) communication skills that allow them to explain complex legal issues concisely, clearly, and without technical words; (iv) soft skills that allow them to work as part of a team with different generations and generate synergies among team members; (vi) a deep understanding of the business and its needs, management with a preventive focus, and a strategic vision aligned with the company’s objectives; (vii) promotion of teamwork, not only within the legal area but also with other areas of the company, which will allow them to have a multidisciplinary approach.
