What are the key projects you have been involved in over the past twelve months?

Over the past twelve months, in my role as General Counsel, I have been involved in: securing corporate and institutional loans totalling over one billion dollars; significantly reducing the delinquency rate in the company’s loan portfolio; restructuring the company’s payroll and salary structure, which involved a cost of over 50 million soles; and resolving outstanding collective bargaining agreements with six labour unions, some dating back several years, for a total value of up to 70 million soles.

Are there specific challenges that in-house legal counsel should prepare for in 2026?

Yes, one of them is the imminent advancement of artificial intelligence, as well as the increased incidence of crises in industries and markets, resulting from geopolitical factors and natural phenomena.

Have you had any experiences throughout your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?

While my greatest expertise lies in legal advice on financial law, a few years ago I had to lead the legal structuring and contractual execution for the construction of my company’s new headquarters, valued at over $100m, which to this day is the tallest building in Peru.

What do you believe are the most important attributes a modern in-house legal counsel should possess?

They must have special knowledge of the industry and market where the company operates, have strong relationships with the company’s stakeholders, and know how to act prudently when appropriate without losing the agility that is always required within the company when providing legal advice.
