Career Biography
Elise De Geyter holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Law from the esteemed Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, where she had the privilege of participating in the prestigious Masters Honors program. In 2017, she graduated with a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Law from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Asia’s leading law school and a globally recognised authority in legal education. Her studies at NUS were supported by a highly competitive tuition fee waiver scholarship, underscoring her commitment to excelling in the specialised field of IP law.
Throughout her career, Elise has gained invaluable experience across a range of legal settings. She began her professional journey at Triana, Uribe & Michelsen, a top-tier IP law firm in Colombia, where she assisted a diverse client base, including Colombian, Belgian, and international companies. This experience deepened her understanding of cross-border legal matters, particularly in the field of intellectual property.
In 2018, Elise joined Eubelius, Belgium’s largest independent law firm, where she spent three years further honing her legal expertise. At Eubelius, she focused primarily on trademark, copyright, patent law, and trade practices, defending the interests of both national and international clients. One of her most notable contributions was her active involvement in a landmark copyright litigation case, where over €10m was at stake. Elise played a crucial role in the team that successfully secured a favourable ruling for the client, a milestone that marked a defining moment in her career.
In 2021, Elise was awarded the prestigious Prins Albert Foundation scholarship, an accolade that allowed her to expand both her professional and academic horizons. This scholarship gave her the opportunity to deepen her legal education while simultaneously gaining valuable business experience. She worked in project management for a prominent Belgian corporate group operating in Peru, where she applied her legal expertise within a dynamic business environment.
Currently based in Lima, Elise serves as in-house counsel for a Belgian corporate group with operations spanning various sectors across the USA, Peru, Guatemala, Europe, and Africa. In this role, she provides essential legal guidance on corporate law matters, ensuring the company’s legal operations are aligned with international standards and local regulations. Elise’s work requires not only legal acumen, but also a deep understanding of the diverse business environments in which the group operates.
In addition to her academic and professional achievements, Elise is professionally proficient in Dutch, French, English, and Spanish. This multilingual proficiency enables her to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders across multiple continents. Her language skills, combined with her broad legal expertise, have enabled her to thrive in a globalised, multifaceted legal landscape.
