As AI becomes increasingly integrated into legal teams, and the pressure grows to ‘do more with less’, how can GC balance efficiency, quality and human judgement?
AI is the GC’s best friend. The role can sometimes be a bit lonely without the massive network of legal expertise you will find in the big law firms. With the quality of the tools now made available within legal AI, all of a sudden, you are able to tap into so much data and information and to massively improve efficiency and drive down costs. Human judgment will be key for the foreseeable future, but no doubt you can get an extreme amount of “associate work” done in record time with what is now being offered in the market.
What key trends – and challenges – should in-house lawyers be monitoring over the next year?
GCs have a key role to push improvements within the legal industry. The business is very happy with the current model with no need to change, so we need to set demands and identify the ones willing to evolve and embrace technological development. So far, we are yet to see material efficiencies even in big processes, which has been somewhat disappointing at this stage.
