OiLSERV operates as the leading regionally founded and independent oil and gas services company in the MENA region with main operations in Abu Dhabi, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya. The legal department is led by head of legal Marthinus Vermeulen, and is composed of four other lawyers spread across Dubai an Iraq. The legal department uses integrated technology and processes which are ISO audited and certified each year, this assists the team to remain small but highly effective. It handles all of the compliance, contractual, legal operational and ethical affairs of the company and supports eight business units, countries, and seven main business lines. All work is handled in-house by the team with outside counsel only used when and if needed. The legal department also supports the ethics and compliance function which is managed through the legal department, and include training programs, monitoring and assessment and controls as part of a streamlined and robust ethics and compliance function. This small but expert and tight-knit team works across jurisdictional boundaries in changing economic circumstances in the oil and gas industry, and does so with skill and efficiency allowing OiLSERV to achieves its strategic business aims.
