In Asia, the legal team is responsible for general commercial matters, compliance regulatory oversight, employment (both contentious and non-contentious), governance work for subsidiaries and strategic planning including acquisitions and post-acquisition integration work.

Regina Chan is the senior director of Asia Pacific Legal. The Asia Pacific legal team has provided timely and valuable advice in navigating the new and unforeseen challenges that many multinational companies have experienced in these few years. The team has also provided guidance in interpreting the regulations set up by governments, aligning with internal parties and stakeholders, preparing the written applications, and thus obtaining government approvals in product qualifications under the new requirements for sale into the country.

In view of the conflicting laws and regimes in the changing geopolitical environment, Regina Chan promptly led the revisions of contract terms and conditions for cross-border sales in mitigating the impact. With respect to the data privacy protection and cybersecurity law, she has spearheaded the review and put in place measures to meet the new requirements of timely assessments of Viavi Solutions’ existing data protection systems in various places. These include updated documentation in view of the legal bases on the use of data; cross-border data transfer; explicit consent for sensitive personal data as well as internal protocol in the event of a data breach.

Equally important, Regina Chan provided guidance on the appointment of data protection officers and conducted training to equip employees with the knowledge of such requirements.
