What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The acquisition of the Hapag Lloyd Cruises business with a history of more than 100 years from our 50% shareholder TUI AG in 2020 was a landmark transaction for our company and team. The preparation, closing and subsequent integration measures demanded close interdisciplinary cooperation between multiple teams, effective project management and power to implement things. Connected thereto and on occasion of other circumstances, a debut as bond issuer and loan topics demanded the team’s commitment as well. Further, new developments around Covid had considerable impact on our business and work.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

To our branch (tourism) the pandemic had a huge impact. Almost every process needed to be reviewed and revised. The pandemic also required more crisis management and triggered change processes, including more digitalisation.
