Capgemini is a French multinational management consultancy with expertise in technology and outsourcing. With expansion comes risk, and the legal team has grown alongside the company in terms of both headcount and expertise. Acknowledging the impressive work within the department, the group legal team has recently won industry awards for its approach to transactions, innovation and contract management. As a forward-looking and creative lawyer, the former group general counsel Isabelle Roux-Chenu sought to promote diversity within the team of 280 (as of 2016), seeing it as a key stimulator of innovative thought-processes that ultimately provided clear benefit to the wider business. After spearheading the creation of a highly-effective contract management system, Roux-Chenu has now moved into the role of head of group commercial and contract management, while retaining her position as senior advisor to the group chairman and CEO. In the first few years, the contract management system generated millions of Euros for Capgemini through the collection of withheld funds and the quick release of billing. The geographically diverse legal team has managed to maintain what they term a “One Team” approach, regardless of where they are physically located. Along with this, the team work towards “Legal Priorities” set for them each year – objectives that are derived from the strategic plans of the group chairman and CEO, highlighting the central role that the legal team plays in company development. On top of this, the Capgemini legal team continued to innovate when it partnered with an external law firm and an insurance broker to develop a cybersecurity incident prevention and response programme. The creation of this business unit again perfectly demonstrated the ability of the legal team to generate value, rather than just facilitate the company’s operations. The Capgemini team’s proactivity, nimbleness, client-focused mentality, innovative approach and exceptional strategic alignment make it truly one of the best in Europe.
