Head of Legal, Compliance & Public Affairs | Samsung Electronics
Marion Legrix de la Salle is a 47-year-old individual passionate about law, economics, technology and innovation.
Her current role is a real treat: she is Head of Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs at Samsung Electronics France.
Her first career as an antitrust lawyer in the Paris office of an American law firm (Latham & Watkins, 2004–2009) gave her a lifelong passion for observing and studying the competitive functioning of markets, especially multi-sided platforms.
She had the privilege of working on many antitrust matters and cases in the media, telecoms, banking and payments industries, and she got to meet amazing, talented, sharp, funny and resilient people.
She then moved in-house to SFR, a leading French telecoms operator, for a three-year experience during a turning point in the French telecoms market. The economics and regulation of the telecoms industry opened up a fascinating window.
She joined Samsung 13 years ago and embarked on a wild and transformative journey across product, business, legal and regulatory environments.
She is doing her utmost to make the Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs department a growth engine that supports Samsung’s mission: devoting its talent and technology to creating superior products and services that contribute to a better global society.
Samsung’s five core values — people, excellence, change, integrity and co-prosperity — are at the heart of every decision made on a daily basis.
She is devoted to inspiring a growth mindset combined with a curious, ‘can-do’, cheerful and learner attitude.
One of her mentors, a senior partner at Latham & Watkins, kept encouraging her to develop new skills and explore new areas by repeating that ‘a good lawyer is a good lawyer everywhere’.
What he meant was that a strong legal backbone and a curious mind are the fuel for a legal career. This has proved to be one of her best professional mottos: she started as an antitrust lawyer, moved into telecoms, then joined a leading Korean technology company, expanding her roles and responsibilities from antitrust and compliance to legal and public affairs, and into a whole world of business and regulatory ventures.
Many sectors, companies, business challenges and areas of law did not exist when she started her legal career. Geopolitics is now at the heart of companies’ strategies.
The challenges surrounding AI, cyber security and data protection are increasing every day in a highly unpredictable and changing business and economic environment — and, as they say in Hollywood, you are only as good as your last show.
Annual negotiations with customers are a powerful reminder of this.
Nevertheless, she feels most privileged to be in her role.
One of the biggest perks of the job is that her role and responsibilities are constantly evolving and that she learns every day alongside awesome colleagues!
