During periods of instability or crisis, I focus on providing clear, timely, and practical legal guidance that supports business continuity and protects the organisation from unnecessary exposure. My approach is based on anticipating risks, prioritising critical matters, and working closely with internal teams, authorities, contractors, landowners, and other stakeholders to ensure that permits, regulatory obligations, rights of way, and litigation matters remain properly managed.

I believe the legal function plays a strategic role in helping the organization navigate uncertainty while remaining compliant, preserving key relationships, and making informed decisions that strengthen resilience.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

I believe a modern in-house counsel must be strategic, business-oriented, and solution-driven. Today, the role goes beyond identifying legal risks; it requires understanding the business, anticipating challenges, and providing practical advice that supports decision-making and long-term growth.

Strong communication skills, sound judgment, adaptability, and integrity are also essential. An in-house counsel must be able to translate complex legal issues into clear guidance, work closely with multidisciplinary teams, and build trust across the organisation.

The most effective in-house counsel is not only a legal advisor, but also a strategic partner who helps the company move forward responsibly, efficiently, and in compliance with the applicable legal framework.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?

One cause I am deeply passionate about is advancing women’s leadership and participation in the energy sector. This commitment is reflected in my role as Founder and President of Women’s Energy Network Dominican Republic Chapter, an organization created to connect, inspire, and empower women across the energy industry.

Through WEN RD, we work to create spaces for education, visibility, networking, mentorship, and professional growth. For me, this is not only about supporting women who are already in the sector, but also about inspiring the next generation to see themselves as part of the energy future.

It is a cause that is both professional and personal, because I have seen how powerful it can be when women are given access, confidence, and opportunities. Helping open those doors for others is one of the most meaningful parts of my work.
