Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
Today, innovation and agility are key in all industries. Recently, we have adjusted the company’s procurement process for goods and services. In this process, all members of my legal team contributed with ideas and our general counsel, Fernando Arbeláez Soto, contributed his strategic perspective.
Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?
I can foresee the implementation of technological tools as a key to enhancing legal advice and improving the strategic work of corporate lawyers.
What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, you are passionate about, and why?
I am very motivated to be a part of the development of renewable energy projects, it is a passion of mine, and my current role allows me to contribute to sustainability from a legal perspective.
Elizabeth Villa Mesa has a law degree from the Universidad de Antioquia, with a specialisation in private law and a Master’s degree from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana of Medellín and a Master’s degree in Legal Argumentation from the University of Alicante and the University of Palermo. Elizabeth has experience in contracts, mergers and acquisitions, energy projects, civil liability, insurance, and litigation. She started her career at ISAGEN in 2013 where she has participated in relevant projects of the company and is currently the legal affairs executive, leading a group of talented lawyers as of March 2022. The team led by Elizabeth is part of the corporate affairs management led by Fernando Arbeláez Soto, ISAGEN’s general counsel.
