Career Biography

Patrick Balaresque is a senior corporate legal executive with extensive experience leading legal, regulatory affairs, governance, compliance, and transactional matters across Latin America. He currently serves as corporate legal manager at Laboratorios Saval, one of the leading pharmaceutical groups in the region, where he advises senior management and boards of directors on legal, compliance and regulatory matters, as well as strategic initiatives, complex transactions, and regional expansion.

Over the course of his career, Patrick has built a distinguished track record at the intersection of law, strategy, and business. His expertise spans mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, pharmaceutical regulation, antitrust and competition law, licensing, compliance, commercial contracting, and cross-border operations. Recognised for his pragmatic and business-oriented approach, he has consistently helped organisations navigate complex legal and regulatory environments while supporting sustainable growth and value creation.

Patrick played a leading in-house role in the acquisition of Instituto Sanitas and Chemopharma by Laboratorios Saval, one of the most significant pharmaceutical transactions in Chile in recent years. The transaction strengthened Saval’s market position and expanded its pharmaceutical portfolio through the acquisition of two established manufacturers with broad therapeutic and consumer-health offerings.

The acquisition required the management of a sophisticated legal and regulatory process, including transaction structuring, competition-law analysis, merger control review, regulatory approvals, and the implementation of remedies negotiated with Chile’s National Economic Prosecutor’s Office (FNE). Following an extensive Phase II investigation, the FNE approved the transaction subject to targeted divestiture commitments, allowing completion of the acquisition in 2026.

Beyond transactional work, Patrick has been instrumental in strengthening governance frameworks, compliance programmes, legal risk management practices, and intellectual property strategies for multinational operations. He is a trusted adviser to executive leadership teams on matters involving strategic growth, regulatory transformation, corporate restructuring, business development, and stakeholder management. His leadership philosophy is centred on positioning legal functions as strategic business partners that support long-term corporate objectives.

Patrick combines deep regional expertise with a strong international perspective. He holds an LL.M. from Cornell Law School and legal qualifications from leading Chilean institutions, providing him with a sophisticated understanding of global legal standards and international business practices.
