Career Biography

Javier Álamos serves as General Counsel Chile of Hortifrut Chile S.A., the Chilean subsidiary of the multinational company that is a leading producer and exporter of berries. In this role, he acts as the company’s principal legal adviser and strategic partner to senior management, engaging directly with the general management on matters of the greatest significance to the business in Chile.

With more than a decade of experience in corporate, agricultural, and water law, Javier has built an executive profile combining technical rigour with business acumen, having advised leading agri-export companies such as David Del Curto, San José Farms, and Exportadora Baika, among others, and, most recently, Hortifrut Chile.

Since joining Hortifrut in July 2022 as General Counsel Chile, he has established himself as the leading legal authority for the subsidiary’s operations and as the direct counterpart to management on corporate governance, legal risk management, and regulatory compliance. His mandate encompasses corporate, commercial, civil, and environmental matters arising from the regulatory framework applicable to the Company’s agri-export activities.

As legal leader of the Chilean subsidiary, he has driven high-impact organisational initiatives, leading and implementing strategic projects and processes for the Company’s productive expansion, as well as directing organisational change initiatives aimed at business efficiency. He also provides support and leadership across all areas of the Company, positioning the legal function as a driver of organisational culture and reputational risk management.

His expertise in agribusiness and water law establishes him as a leading authority in a regulatory area that is critical to the Chilean agribusiness sector.

Javier holds a law degree from Universidad de Los Andes and a Master’s Degree in Business Law, in addition to postgraduate diplomas in General Corporate Taxation from the same institution and in Water Rights, Environment and Climate Change from Universidad de Chile. This academic background reflects a record of excellence and training at leading law schools, and underscores his consolidation as General Counsel of the Chilean subsidiary of a multinational agri-export company — establishing him as a benchmark legal executive in the Chilean market, capable of combining specialised technical advice with strategic leadership in service of the agri-export business.
