Established in 1972 as the Telecommunications Authority, Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) rapidly became Belize’s leading telecommunication provider and today owns and operates an extensive telecommunications network throughout Belize encompassing landline, mobile and broadband services. BTL’s legal team is led by legal and regulatory affairs manager, Dean Molina and is composed of a number of highly competent in-house lawyers and paralegals. The legal function has assisted BTL on a number of investments that aim to improve services across the country. An example of this is the introduction of underground and submarine fibre optic networks which has made all international voice and data circuits redundant, allowed for improved long distance communication services and an increase in bandwidth. The legal function has been commended for supporting the expansion of BTL’s network which is developing and improving rural areas in the country.
