Her professional career has been entirely focused on Bolivia’s financial sector, where for more than ten years she has advised highly regulated institutions on corporate law, financial regulation, capital markets, corporate governance, and compliance.
She currently serves as legal counsel at Sociedad Controladora Mercantil Santa Cruz S.A., a position she has held for the past six years. In this role, she provides strategic legal advice to the companies within the group on complex corporate and regulatory matters, actively contributing to the structuring and implementation of key business initiatives that support the organisation’s long-term growth and institutional development.
Throughout her career, she has led and participated in significant regulatory projects, working closely with the Bolivian Financial System Supervisory Authority (ASFI). Her experience includes regulatory authorisation processes, bond issuance programmes, capital markets transactions, the implementation and enhancement of corporate governance and compliance frameworks, and the development of legal strategies to address complex regulatory challenges. These experiences have shaped her belief that the legal function should go beyond identifying and managing risks by delivering practical solutions that foster innovation, strengthen governance, and enable sustainable business growth.
Before joining Sociedad Controladora Mercantil Santa Cruz S.A., she worked for more than four years as regulatory legal analyst at Banco Mercantil Santa Cruz S.A., where she developed a strong understanding of Bolivia’s financial regulatory framework and gained extensive experience advising business areas in a highly regulated environment.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Universidad Mayor, Real y Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca and a bachelor’s degree in law from Universidad del Valle. She also earned a master’s degree in tax law from Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, complemented by postgraduate diplomas in corporate law, civil and civil procedure law, regulatory and administrative law, and insurance and reinsurance. This multidisciplinary background enables her to combine legal expertise with business insight and strategic decision-making.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, she enjoys sharing knowledge through articles and professional reflections on financial regulation, capital markets, corporate governance, and compliance. She believes that exchanging ideas and experiences contributes to strengthening the legal profession and reinforces the role of in-house lawyers as trusted strategic partners.
She firmly believes that the role of in-house counsel extends far beyond providing legal advice. Their greatest contribution lies in understanding the business, anticipating risks, building trust, and supporting strategic decision-making that enables organisations to grow sustainably while upholding the highest standards of integrity, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
