What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The top priority of my legal team has been predominantly assisting on a crucial internal project for the group in close cooperation with various other departments. Since this led to an increased workload, we were blessed to be assisted by our trusted external counsel in various jurisdictions with whom we have managed to build an outstanding relation over the last few years. Having heavily invested in these relationships over the past few years, this way of working provided us with the high-quality legal services and the necessary flexibility during challenging moments.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

Covid-19 has shown to be an ultimate example of an out-of-the-ordinary event, remaining to affect everyone in my team and our company during this year as well, both professionally and personally. After having to adapt to the new normal, it also turned out to be a great opportunity for us as in-house counsel to show our added value while still working remotely during part of 2021. We as in-house counsel are closer than ever to the business and the market whilst staying proactive in the environment of sudden changes.

What will be the main focus for the company in the next 12 months and how do you intend to assist with this?

My legal team resides in both western and eastern Europe and one of my own points of focus has been the well-being and health of all team members. Personal development is key as always but also ensuring to maintain a healthy work life balance was prioritised increasingly. As we navigate our way out of the pandemic, our core purpose remains crystal clear as always, assisting the commercial teams and supporting departments in providing first class legal advice. We will remain focused on key areas identified, mindful of the further progressing digitisation and technology developments.
