Right from the start of her career, PM-International’s chief legal officer Beatrice Nelson-Beer made the conscious decision to give her work an international approach. Something which Nelson-Beer admits ‘put her in a very challenging, but at the same time unbelievably fortunate situation that gave me that competitive edge’, constantly requiring her to learn, change, adapt and grow with her daily challenges. ‘The permanent international exposure strengthened not only my legal skills, my commercial acumen and my diversity and cultural awareness, but also enabled me to build stronger relationships with key stakeholders locally, nationally and globally in the business world’, she adds. Her key achievements include developing and maintaining trusting relationships with potential markets from initial stages to the deal closing stage, working in legal and regulatory frameworks to expand to Asian and South American markets such as South Korea, India, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brazil and Chile. She has gone onto negotiating and drafting multimillion pounds energy supply contracts for corporate customers. In 2012, Nelson-Beer was central to the implementation of permitted health and nutritional claims in accordance with the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20th December 2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods. She was responsible for supervising and initiating the company’s notifications in Europe to ensure their marketability in as many European member states as possible, additionally drafting and approving product descriptions with regards to nutritional and health claims under European food and labelling law for the company’s marketing material and online presence. Today, she is responsible for product registrations worldwide. ‘I have developed, revised, implemented and published the legal framework for the organisation as a whole’, says Nelson-Beer. This has had a major impact on the company worldwide, and as a result the organisation has a better framework in regulatory affairs and compliance. Nelson-Beer personal attributes are second to none, she has built up a very strong team from scratch and steered organisational change to create stability and strength. he possesses excellent management skills and leads from the front foot with passion and purpose.
