Argiris Oikonomou has served as Legal Counsel to the Public
Power Corporation {PPC) Group since 2005 and, since 2020, as Group Chief Legal
and Corporate Governance Officer. He is widely regarded as one of the most
accomplished, experienced, and respected corporate lawyers in Greece. Born in
Piraeus in 1960, he graduated from the lonideios Model School and holds degrees
in Law and Political Science from the Law School of the National and
Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has also attended executive education
programmes at Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School (2013 & 2024).
As Managing Partner of the law firm “Strategis & Partners,” he
acted as Legal Counsel to companies including Roche Hellas and Olympic Marin.
Between 1995 and 2002, he was responsible for the legal due diligence and
regulatory oversight of numerous share offerings through the Athens Stock
Exchange for major companies such as OTE, Public Power Corporation {PPC),
Eurobank, Bank of Cyprus, lnteramerican, BIOHALCO, SPACE Hellas, Nireus
Aquaculture, KARAVEL Hotels, and many others. From 1995 to 2001, he served as
President of the Neapolitans Association “Ta Vatika” and, during the
same period, as Vice President of the Pan-Laconian Federation. During his
tenure at Public Power Corporation {PPC), he was entrusted with the management
of all major legal matters of the Group, including the legal and operational
unbundling of electricity transmission and distribution activities, the subsequent
sale of 100% of ADMIE and 49% of HEDNO, as well as the transformation of PPC
from a vertically integrated state-owned utility into a multinational
private-sector group comprising more than 100 companies. He served as Alternate
Member of the Hellenic Competition Commission (2009 2012), Member of the Board
of Directors of TAYTEKO (2012-2013), Egnatia Odos S.A. {2018-2019), and other
companies in Greece and abroad. He also served as Chairman of the Legal Affairs
Committee of Eurelectric and, from 2017 to 2024, as Secretary General of the
Hellenic Energy Law Association. He participated in the drafting of legislation
concerning public limited companies, corporate governance, and the energy
market. Since 2025, he has been named Honorary Professor at the School of Law
of Queen Mary University of London. In September 2024, he became a member of
the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Association of Listed Companies. In
2023, he received the “Manager of the Year” awards in the Legal and
Ethics & Compliance categories and was also a finalist for the
“Manager of the Year” award in the Environmental, Social, and
Governance category. Additionally, in 2023, he was shortlisted among the four
leading candidates for the “Lawyer of the Year” award in Europe and
Asia in the general category of Commercial Law. He has authored articles and
studies and has delivered lectures and presentations in Greece and abroad on
topics including Corporate Governance, Public Procurement, Risk Management,
Compliance, Conflicts of Interest, and related matters. He is the editor of the
publication Compliance and Ethics (Nomiki Bibliothiki, 2017; 2nd edition,
Nomiki Bibliothiki, 2024). In 2019, he was awarded a Career Achievement Award
by the Alumni Association of the lonideios Model School.
