Jorge Emilio Badani Veintemillas
Legal director | Huawei Technologies (Bolivia)
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Bolivia is currently experiencing a challenging environment marked by political polarisation, social unrest, economic pressure, foreign currency shortages, and evolving regulatory developments. In this context, legal support must be proactive, practical, and closely aligned with business priorities.
My approach focuses on early risk identification, continuous monitoring of legal and regulatory developments, and close coordination with management and key business functions. By assessing potential impacts on operations, contracts, personnel, and compliance obligations, we can implement timely mitigation measures and support informed decision-making.
The legal function contributes to organisational resilience by balancing risk management with business continuity, enabling the company to navigate uncertainty while protecting its legal, regulatory, and reputational interests.
How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company? Can you share an example of a recent legal-led initiative that had a significant impact?
I view the legal department as a strategic business partner that supports sustainable growth while safeguarding the company’s interests. Our work extends beyond risk management to supporting commercial transactions, compliance, corporate governance, dispute resolution, and strategic decision-making. A recent example involved supporting a strategic customer relationship in collaboration with business, delivery, finance, and compliance teams. Through legal guidance on contract negotiations, regulatory matters, and risk management, we contributed to a framework that enabled the successful execution of key projects and strengthened a long-term partnership.
This demonstrates how legal teams can create value by combining legal expertise with commercial understanding and cross-functional collaboration.
