Career Biography
Luis Hernán Silva Villalobos, a lawyer from the Universidad de Chile, joined Mallplaza in 1999, taking on the foundational challenge of creating the company’s internal legal department. Over his more than 25 years with the organisation, and serving as corporate legal, risk and compliance manager (general counsel), he has consolidated his team as an indispensable strategic partner for the growth and internationalisation of the urban centre chain in Chile, Peru and Colombia. Throughout his tenure, Silva has structured the legal support for Mallplaza’s most transformational corporate milestones. Of particular note is his leadership in the successful initial public offering (IPO) in 2018 and in the various financing structures that currently enable the strategic investment plan of US$ 600 m. for the 2025-2028 period. In the transactional sphere, he has facilitated complex M&A transactions of extremely high regional impact. He led the acquisition of 100% of Open Plaza Peru and the remaining percentage of Mallplaza in that country through a Public Tender Offer (OPA) completed at the end of 2024, for an amount close to US$454 m. Recently, during the second half of 2026, he participated in the agreement for the purchase of eight shopping centres from real estate asset manager Pactia in Colombia for approximately US$376 m., which will allow Mallplaza to double its assets in that country and reach 45 assets at regional level. In parallel, his experience ensures smooth operations for the management of a high volume of contracts corresponding to more than 5,300 commercial spaces.
With a profound vision of business ethics, he designs, coordinates and develops Mallplaza’s various regulatory compliance and corporate risk programmes at regional level. Formally serving as Integrity Officer, he leads the implementation of policies on Competition Law, Environment, Human Rights, Protection of Customer Rights, Anti-Corruption, Personal Data and Integrity. He also oversees preventive controls through the Crime Prevention Model (MPD) and the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Programme (PLAFT).
At Corporate Governance level, he serves as Secretary to the Board of Directors of Plaza S.A., a body that in 2025 was awarded “Board of the Year” by the Instituto de Directores de Chile. From this position, he ensures the protection of the company against structural legal and reputational risks, constantly strengthening its governance, ESG principles and ethical conduct at all levels of the organisation.
