Career Biography
My professional career has been shaped by the opportunity to learn from outstanding people while working in highly regulated industries undergoing constant change. Looking back, I see my career less as a collection of individual achievements and more as a continuous learning process alongside talented colleagues, business leaders, external counsel and mentors who have helped me grow both professionally and personally.
I began my legal career working with Loreto Ried in her boutique insolvency and restructuring practice, where I was exposed to bankruptcy proceedings, distressed businesses and creditor protection matters. That early experience taught me that legal advice is ultimately about understanding how legal decisions affect people, businesses and long-term outcomes.
I later transitioned into the financial sector, working at BancoEstado and Corpbanca, where I advised on capital markets, international financing transactions, corporate governance and cross-border operations. Entering the banking industry was both challenging and rewarding, as it required navigating complex regulatory frameworks while understanding the commercial realities faced by financial institutions. Throughout those years, I learned enormously not only from lawyers, but also from business professionals whose perspectives helped me become a more practical and business-oriented adviser.
For more than a decade, I have served as counsel of General Motors Financial Chile, where I lead the legal function in Chile and support both retail and wholesale automotive finance operations. I also serve as Board Secretary and as a member of the Board of Directors, roles that have given me a broader perspective on governance, strategic decision-making and risk management.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role has been helping the organisation navigate a rapidly evolving regulatory environment. In recent years, this has included preparing for the implementation of Chile’s new Cybersecurity Law, the new Personal Data Protection Law, Open Finance regulation, changes arising from the Consolidated Debt framework, and other regulatory developments affecting the financial services industry. At the same time, a substantial part of my practice has focused on consumer protection, an area that is particularly relevant for automotive finance businesses operating in highly scrutinised markets. These projects have required close collaboration with compliance, technology, operational and business teams, reinforcing my belief that effective legal counsel should not simply identify risks, but help organisations find practical and responsible ways to address them.
Another important dimension of my practice has been insurance. In addition to being a licensed insurance broker in Chile, I have worked extensively on insurance programmes and products offered through partnerships with leading participants in the Chilean insurance market. This work has involved regulatory matters, distribution models, customer protection requirements, commercial negotiations and the development of insurance solutions designed to support both business objectives and customer needs.
Looking back, I believe my career has benefited enormously from the guidance, support and knowledge shared by many people. I have learned not only from excellent lawyers, both in-house and in private practice, but also from business professionals who have helped me better understand how organisations operate, make decisions and create value. Those experiences have reinforced my conviction that legal departments are most effective when they act as trusted business partners and contribute constructively to an organisation’s long-term objectives.
I am deeply grateful to the members of my legal team both local and international, whose professionalism, commitment and judgement are fundamental to everything we achieve. I am equally thankful to the broader GM Financial team. Working alongside professionals from different disciplines and markets has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career, and I continue to learn from them every day. Any recognition I have received reflects not only my own efforts, but also the trust, collaboration and support of the many colleagues, mentors and teams with whom I have had the privilege to work throughout my professional journey
