How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

I believe the role of a Legal Counsel is inherently strategic, especially during periods of instability or crisis. In these situations, the legal function plays a central role not only in identifying the legal risks and challenges but also in helping define the most effective strategy to address them—or, where possible, to anticipate and mitigate them before they escalate.

For this reason, I see legal strategy and business strategy as closely interconnected. They should evolve together, influencing one another rather than operating in separate silos. A resilient organisation is one where legal is involved early in the decision-making process, ensuring that commercial objectives are pursued in a way that is both legally sound and sustainable.

One of the biggest mistakes an organisation can make is to view the legal function as merely reactive, adapting to business decisions after they have already been made. Instead, Legal should act as a strategic partner, contributing to decisions from the outset, balancing risk with opportunity, and helping the business navigate uncertainty while protecting its long-term interests.

What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?

One of the most significant transactions I have been involved in recently was the €480 million investment by Mirova in the RP Global Group. This transaction marked a major strategic milestone, enabling the Group to transition from a renewable energy developer to an Independent Power Producer (IPP).

My role focused on the legal due diligence of the Group’s Italian portfolio and the related special purpose vehicles (SPVs). Specifically, I was responsible for reviewing the legal aspects of wind, photovoltaic, agrivoltaic and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, identifying legal risks, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting the transaction to ensure a smooth and successful completion.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

The most obvious answer is probably artificial intelligence, but I genuinely believe it will have the most significant impact on the legal profession in the coming years, as it will across many industries.

At this stage, I see AI primarily as a tremendous opportunity. When used appropriately, it can significantly improve both the quality and the speed of legal work. That said, I also believe it is a double-edged sword. For more routine or process-driven tasks, such as translations or document summarisation, AI is already extremely effective. However, when it comes to legal research, strategic analysis, or complex reasoning, it still requires experienced professionals who can ask the right questions, critically assess the output, and apply legal judgement, otherwise the risk is to commit terrible mistakes. For this reason I see AI as a powerful tool that enhances, rather than replaces, legal expertise.
