Short biography
Melissa Marrero Severino is Senior Legal and Compliance Manager at ALTIO Sociedad Administradora de Fondos de Inversión, S.A. She is a senior legal executive with extensive experience advising on complex corporate, financial and regulatory matters in the Dominican Republic. At ALTIO, she leads legal and regulatory strategy for investment funds, advising on sophisticated capital markets, debt and real estate transactions, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and the structuring and ongoing operation of investment vehicles.
Throughout her career, Melissa has advised leading domestic and international clients on high-value transactions and regulatory matters across a broad range of industries. Her experience encompasses corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, investment funds, intellectual property, privacy and data protection, financial regulation, technology and other highly regulated sectors.
Before joining ALTIO, she practised at two of the Dominican Republic’s leading law firms, Headrick, Rizik, Álvarez & Fernández and Jiménez Peña, where she advised multinational corporations, financial institutions and emerging businesses on strategic legal and regulatory matters.
Melissa also served as a Legal Intern with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in New York, working on international initiatives involving innovation, technology, intellectual property and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property, Innovation and Technology from New York University School of Law and a Bachelor of Laws from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE). She is admitted to practise law in both the Dominican Republic and the State of New York.
Melissa is recognised for combining strong technical expertise with strategic commercial judgement, enabling organisations to navigate complex legal and regulatory environments while advancing their commercial objectives. She has also contributed to legal scholarship through publications in the field of intellectual property.
