Like many legal departments, we have focused on implementing AI capabilities into our workflows within contracting, legal research, compliance management and other areas.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel?

In my view, the best in-house lawyers never lose sight of their clients’ commercial goals to drive the business, always distilling credible risks into succinct, actionable advice.

What key trends – and challenges – should in-house lawyers be monitoring over the next year?

The impact of AI on the practice of law will continue to be the dominant trend in the near term, including training/upskilling of team members, capturing time and cost efficiencies, QA and resetting the value proposition for external counsel.
