What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?

Firtsly, the contract review and restructuring of supplier partners in the regional logistics chain, improving the operating model, achieving business growth, and better managing risks and contingencies.

Secondly, as is already public knowledge, Diageo is the official FIFA sponsor for the 2026 World Cup, and I have been leading the projects to be implemented for this event from the legal department of the South LAC region.

Finally, given that Data Privacy and the use of Artificial Intelligence are two extremely relevant topics, I have been leading projects and training programs that cover the flowcharts and functionality of both, always within the framework of Compliance as a recognised global company and in accordance with applicable regulations.

Are there any particular challenges for which in-house counsel should be preparing in 2026?

In-house counsel face ongoing challenges, and 2026 is no exception. Aligning business projects and overall business expectations with local regulations, while maintaining compliance and team engagement, can be challenging; this is where our role becomes more relevant than ever.

Regarding specific issues, we see that some topics have been evolving regionally and continue to require improvement, such as the appropriate and correct use of artificial intelligence, personal data protection, the local economic climate, and consumer trends.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

I believe an in-house lawyer must have the right motivation to excel in their role; the ability to step outside the legal realm and immerse themselves in the core of the business. They should be comfortable with challenges and changes, delve into the dynamics of internal departments, and be a present and active Business Partner. The best approach is to cultivate curiosity, both internal and external, not only within their professional field but also in general; while also being aware of current trends, projections, and plans within the core business.
