What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Advising on the full range of legal issues in one of the largest research-intensive UK Universities.  In particular this year this has included advising on embedding the new obligations on HE institutions in relation to freedom of speech and expression and advising on emerging regulatory obligations in relation to trusted research and foreign interference.

What do you see as an opportunity or risk over the next six months?

The University’s new strategy, Manchester 2035, sets out the focus and ambition for the institution including having impact and innovation as key drivers.  One of the key privileges of being in-house counsel is the ability to support the organisation’s goals in a meaningful way, and the next six months will start to see our delivery of the strategy come to life.
