Head of legal and compliance | LG Electronics Polska

Rafał Poznalski
Head of legal and compliance | LG Electronics Polska
What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?
The main project of the last twelve months, which I consider the most important, and in which I participated, is the development of the online sales channel (OBS – Online Brand Store) at LG Electronics Polska.
Following changes in the entity operating OBS, LG Electronics Polska Sp. z o.o. decided to take over this area of operations, eliminate external service providers, and sell products independently.
This is a fundamental change because it required us to create structures from scratch, maintain the necessary documentation, and create an operating model that allowed us to sell our products independently without conflict with our corporate clients.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
Yes, one of the most unique and simultaneously most formative experiences in my legal career was the opportunity to work in a diverse, multinational, and multicultural legal environment. On a daily basis, I collaborated with lawyers and business stakeholders from numerous countries, representing different legal systems, working styles, and problem-solving approaches. This allowed me not only to deepen my legal knowledge but also to better understand how strongly cultural context influences the interpretation of regulations, communication, and decision-making.
Developing collaborative, pragmatic solutions in situations where local legal requirements had to be reconciled with the organisation’s global strategy was particularly rewarding. Such experiences taught me flexibility, openness to diverse perspectives, and the ability to build understanding across teams with differing expectations and priorities. Working in an international environment also strengthened my communication skills and my ability to clearly present complex legal issues in a way that was understandable to people from different cultures and professional backgrounds. I believe this experience significantly shaped me as a lawyer and remains one of the most valuable elements of my professional career.
What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?
In my opinion, the most important qualities a modern in-house lawyer (in-house counsel) should possess are a combination of legal, business, and interpersonal skills. Above all, it’s impossible to imagine a good lawyer without the necessary strong substantive competencies, by which I mean the ability to practically apply increasingly complex regulations to the employer’s benefit. I also believe that recent years have changed the concept of an in-house lawyer, from one who is an expert in the regulations to one who must understand the business environment in which they provide their services. However, this concept is inextricably linked to risk management within their area of expertise. The increasing activity of state authorities responsible for competition protection, coupled with an increasingly demanding and competitive market, requires the ability to assess the risks associated with specific projects.
Another area I consider crucial for a modern in-house lawyer is, of course, the ability to navigate the world of technology. I cannot imagine a person responsible for legal and compliance working effectively and efficiently without the use of modern digital tools.
What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?
Outside of my professional life, I have several passions that serve as both a source of knowledge and a way to unwind. I am particularly interested in collecting antique Bronze Age weapons and medieval manuscripts. I am fascinated by their historical value, cultural context, and the opportunity to engage with material evidence of ancient civilizations and ways of thinking.
I am also fascinated by military shooting, which I consider primarily a discipline requiring concentration, precision, and self-discipline. This allows me to develop patience and focus, which are equally useful in my professional life.
In my personal life, I am also a Basset Hound breeder. My contact with dogs and the responsibility of breeding them provide me with a perfect balance to my intense intellectual work. These diverse interests reflect my curiosity about the world, my respect for history, and the need for harmony between my passion and my professional life.
