Mateusz Bednarowski
General counsel | Orbico Poland
Career Biography
Mateusz is an attorney-at-law and Head of Legal for Orbico sp. z o.o., a large distribution company in Poland, part of the Orbico Group. A graduate of law from the University of Silesia, he began his professional journey preparing commercial contracts in a banking environment and subsequently refined his legal writing, editing, and research skills at a legal publishing house. This experience also expanded his knowledge and interest in intellectual property law, which now proves valuable in the areas of distribution and marketing.
As a member of the Bar Association, Mateusz practiced in a general-purpose law office, handling a wide range of cases, but always with a focus on commercial matters. Since joining Orbico (then: Navo PGD) in 2010, he has progressed from junior lawyer to Head of Legal, now leading a small but agile in-house team. He has been part of all major legal milestones of the company, spearheading the merger of five Orbico companies in Poland into a single, streamlined entity, leading the GDPR implementation process and designing key legal structures of the Polish company.
In his current role, Mateusz focuses on distribution, marketing, drafting and negotiating contracts with top FMCG, food, beauty, and apparel brands, as well as overseeing logistics, the backbone of distribution. He participates in building exclusive and selective distribution networks and novel route-to-market legal structures. His expertise spans competition law, commercial lease matters, intellectual property and labor law. He leads and often actively participates in litigation to maintain a traditional trial advocate skillset, aspiring to be a versatile, “Swiss army knife” commercial lawyer. Working within Orbico Legal Community, he collaborates with lawyers from across Europe in advising and managing the legal affairs of Orbico Group, streamlining processes and implementing the digital transformation in the legal area.
He applies the principle “simplify, then add lightness”, inspired by Colin Chapman, founder of Lotus Cars, to his legal work; a philosophy that aligns with his passion for elegant, efficient designs and language that is both precise and beautiful.
Outside of work, Mateusz embraces his jack-of-all-trades nature. He is an outdoors enthusiast (likes mountain biking, kayaking, running), a guitar player and an avid fan of the Italian lifestyle, design and language.
