Career Biography
Marta Agatowska is an accomplished Head of Legal and seasoned executive with over two decades of leadership experience across the financial services, credit information, and digital innovation sectors. Her career is marked by a rare combination of deep regulatory expertise, strategic business acumen, and a consistent record of delivering complex, high-stakes legal, regulatory, and organisational transformations. She has successfully led legal teams of up to 18 professionals, overseen extensive portfolios of litigation and regulatory cases, and supported senior management and supervisory bodies in some of Poland’s most highly regulated industries.
Her experience covers also data protection, corporate secretary services and general compliance enhanced by sustainability reporting matters.
Since 2021, Marta has served as Head of Group Legal at Biuro Informacji Kredytowej S.A. (BIK) and its affiliated companies, including Digital Fingerprints S.A., where she also sits on the Supervisory Board. In this role, she has shaped the legal framework for a broad portfolio of data-driven products spanning credit analytics, fraud detection, ESG data management, and advanced biometric technologies. Her legal guidance has supported various credit data exchange initiatives and ensured compliance with evolving Polish and EU regulatory standards.
A significant part of Marta’s impact lies in steering the organization through major regulatory reforms between 2021–2024, covering company law, labour law (remote work and work–life balance), anti-usury measures, DORA, sustainability reporting and AI regulations. She has also designed legal frameworks enabling innovative product launches, including behavioural biometrics and new data integration services. Marta’s accomplishments include overseeing more than 300 data-protection regulatory proceedings, resolving complex trademark disputes, and maintaining excellent internal stakeholder satisfaction, consistently ranking her teams among the top performers across the organization.
Previously, during her 17-year tenure at Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A. (Citi Handlowy), Marta held several senior roles, culminating in Head of Legal for Consumer Banking. She was a key leader in navigating the bank through an unprecedented wave of regulatory change from 2010–2020 (including PSD2, MiFID2, GDPR, PRIIPS, IDD, AML, CCD, and MCD). Her legal and strategic guidance enabled the successful digital transformation of consumer banking operations, including STP digital sales, biometric onboarding, innovative payments integrations (Google Pay, Apple Pay, Blik), and major strategic partnerships with insurers, card schemes, and global e-commerce platforms.
Marta also led critical regulatory negotiations with UOKiK, closing dozens of investigations at early stages and protecting the bank from substantial financial and reputational risk. She built high-performing legal teams known for stability, talent development, and productivity, achieving exceptional employee satisfaction scores and shaping future legal leaders through mentorship programs.
Earlier in her career, as Corporate Governance Counsel and Corporate Banking Counsel at Citi Handlowy, she advised on governance, equity investments, outsourcing projects, and the restructuring of the bank’s capital investment portfolio, including the sale of 90% of its subsidiaries.
Across all roles, Marta has demonstrated strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of business-driven legal advisory. Her ability to combine regulatory mastery with innovation and operational excellence has made her a trusted advisor to boards, executive teams, and industry stakeholders.
