AI is increasingly being integrated into legal teams to maximise efficiency. How can in-house counsel ensure the successful incorporation of these tools without compromising the human element?

The rapid acceleration of AI adoption offers substantial efficiency gains for legal teams, but it also raises important governance and accountability challenges. AI should be positioned as an augmentation of legal capability rather than a substitute for professional judgement. Successful implementation depends on clearly defined use cases, robust governance frameworks and human oversight at critical decision points. I believe that AI will bring the most value when it eliminates routine and low-value tasks, enabling lawyers to focus on strategy, negotiation and stakeholder management, domains shaped by nuance and contextual judgement that cannot be reduced to binary, machine-driven logic.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

A modern in-house counsel must combine deep legal expertise with strong commercial and strategic judgement. The ability to translate complex legal, regulatory and risk considerations into clear, decision-oriented guidance for the management is fundamental. Equally important are persuasive communication skills, resilience under pressure and the confidence to challenge prevailing assumptions constructively. In an increasingly technology-driven environment, in-house counsel must also be fluent in digital tools and innovation dynamics, particularly when supporting science or technology focused organisations.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I am deeply committed to work that creates long-term societal value, particularly in the life sciences, where companies such as Selvita ultimately contribute to improving patient outcomes through the development of new therapies. To deepen my understanding of the scientific foundations of our business, I completed an advanced postgraduate programme in molecular biology at the Jagiellonian University. This involved intensive study of biological processes at the cellular level and has significantly enhanced my ability to engage with scientists, understand R&D workflows and contribute more meaningfully to strategic and legal decision-making across the organisation.
