What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?

Last year, the company obtained authorisation to expand its infrastructure, and the legal team was responsible for completing all the governmental approval procedures to ensure that construction could commence on schedule. In addition, the importation of the required equipment necessitated prior authorisations, which were also managed by the legal department with support from the company’s technical teams.

Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?

Throughout my career as a lawyer, I have had the opportunity to work in a private law firm, then in a public regulatory institution, and subsequently as an in-house counsel at my current company, progressing from lawyer to my present position. This trajectory has allowed me to gain insight into different aspects of the profession and to understand the various challenges that lawyers can face in diverse environments.

How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?

Last year, I assumed responsibility for the sustainability area, which means that the legal function is closely intertwined with ESG principles. In the case of a multinational, when accessing international loans, regulatory compliance is always assessed against international standards. Therefore, at the start of each year, we align with all departments to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and to be prepared for any requests.

AI has been taken seriously as a potentially revolutionary technological change in the legal world for a number of years now. Has it had a meaningful impact in how your legal team works in this time?

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?

I am passionate about everything related to business law, international trade, and corporate law. I have been trained in these areas even before graduating as a lawyer, and I always strive to deepen my knowledge. Currently, I am pursuing an MBA with a specialisation in business analytics to complement my legal expertise.
