Career Biography

Nana Serwaa is a lawyer with 27 years of legal practice experience and an insurance professional with 18 years of industry experience in both life and non-life insurance business. Nana Serwaa graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree in 1997, and a Barrister-at-Law (B.L) Certificate from Ghana School of Law in 1999, when she was called to the Ghana Bar. She holds an MBA in Entrepreneurial Management from the University of Ghana Business School, a Graduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting from the Ghana School of Law, an Advanced Diploma in Insurance Studies from the Chartered Insurance Institute – UK (ACII), an Associate level qualification in Risk Management from the Institutes, USA, an Associate level qualification from the Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, UK, and an LLM in Corporate and Commercial Law from the School of Law, University of Ghana.

Nana Serwaa is a civil litigator, former State Attorney, Company Secretary, chartered insurer, arbitrator, mediator, a draftsman, risk and compliance manager, anti-money laundering reporting officer, chief manager, and General Counsel. Her legal practice experience spans both the private and public sectors. She has advised and represented private clients in diverse industries in Ghana and the UK and worked in the public sector as a State Attorney in the office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, representing the Government of Ghana in a successful case before the African Court on Human and People’s Rights. In her present role, Nana Serwaa has had oversight responsibility for the Human Resources and Administration, Risk and Compliance, and Corporate Communications functions of her company. She has drafted innumerable agreements, contracts and policies, notable among which has been the drafting of Standard Operating Procedures and Policies for more than twenty functions within the Company, as well as tenancies and conveyances for all the Company’s landed properties.

Nana Serwaa served on the Company’s Standing Joint Negotiating Committee, its Finance, and Investment Committee as well as other ad hoc committees for many years and has successfully chaired innumerable Disciplinary Committees and devised the standard procedure for conducting Disciplinary Committee proceedings within the organisation. In her 18 years of dedicated service, Nana Serwaa has successfully protected the rights, interests and properties of SIC Life, through sound advice and proactively engaging with internal and external stakeholders. She is invested in building relationships of trust with all stakeholders, from the Board of Directors, Executive Management, to Unions, Agents Associations as well as other third-party business partners, to better deliver on her mandate as the Company’s ‘protector-in-chief.’ Nana Serwaa was the Shareholder’s representative for SIC Life at Fidelity Bank and UMB Bank for 15 years. She is a former Board Chairperson and presently a Director at Accra Markets Limited Company, where she has served since 2010 on behalf of SIC Life.
