How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In the automotive industry, things move fast! That’s why, for me, clear communication, adaptability, and collaboration are essential to any effective legal strategy. Keeping everyone aligned and informed is key to making the right decisions when uncertainty hits. Managing legal challenges in this environment is about staying one step ahead, being flexible, and finding creative ways to solve problems – “think outside the box” – looking for practical solutions while staying fully compliant.

During crises, the legal team plays a key role in helping leadership make fast, informed decisions without compromising integrity. Sometimes that means rethinking traditional ways of doing things, turning potential risks into opportunities to innovate.

Our legal strategy is aligned with GM’s broader vision of integrity, inclusion and innovation. We aim to protect our people, customers, and partners while keeping the business moving forward.

In the end, I’ve learned that resilience comes from people as much as from plans, and the best legal teams combine structure with imagination to help organisations thrive through change. Approach challenges with curiosity, creativity and accountability.

What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved recently?

Over the past year, I’ve been involved in several key projects focused on driving innovation, strengthening compliance and improving efficiency within the legal function. One of the most relevant has been GM Mexico’s dealership compliance certification program, which reinforces governance, transparency and accountability across our dealer network. This initiative has strengthened our compliance culture and alignment with both local regulation and GM’s global ethical standards.

I’ve also overseen the creation of an internal legal website designed to centralise tools, guidance, and key resources, making legal support faster, simpler, and more accessible for the business. This project includes efforts to streamline legal services and encourage a more agile and empowered legal team.

On the regulatory side, I’ve led environmental and operational initiatives, including new regulatory assessments and alignment with emerging sustainability and emissions standards.

Which legal tech organisations or products are helping in your role?

Technology plays a key role in how we deliver more efficient legal support. At GM Mexico, we focus on using legal tech to simplify processes and improve visibility across the company. We have initiatives such as our internal legal website, digital contract management, regulatory and compliance platforms to track obligations and ensure consistency.

In addition, we’re exploring AI tools to help us examine large volumes of information and identify patterns to support more agile and informed decision making. However, tech doesn’t replace the importance of sound legal judgment. Legal expertise, ethical criteria, and human perspective remain at the center of every decision. Tech tools can make us faster, but it’s our reasoning, integrity and ability to connect the dots that truly drive impact.
